For women, knowing their most fertile days is important to plan a pregnancy. Here, we tell you how to find out when you’re most fertile to get pregnant based on your menstrual cycle.
In regard to fertility, it is best to keep track of your periods. Always record the date of the first day of your period, and keep track so you know how many days from the first day to the last day your cycle is. This will help you estimate when you are ovulating.
Generally, women start ovulating just ten days before their cycle. So if you have a cycle of 28 days, it means you are ovulating on day 14. If you have cycle of 32 days, it means you are ovulating on day 18.
Sperm can live for up to 72 hours, and eggs can live for up to 48 hours from the beginning of ovulation. This is why experts recommend having intercourse 33 days before anticipating ovulation, and continuing for two to three days afterwards. You need to have sex every one to two days in order to secure conception.
Other ways to know your best time for fertility include cervical mucus checking, which means checking to see if you have more stringy mucus, and checking your body temperature. Usually, your temperature should rise by 0.4-0.6 degrees fahrenheit within 36 hours of ovulating. You can also buy over-the-counter ovulation prediction kits that are available at your local pharmacy to know the best time to get pregnant
