Babies conceived with the help of the fertility treatment like IVF have increased the risk of birth defects. Babies who born with the fertility treatment like IVF was have 25% of birth defects compare to the babies born without any fertility treatment.

IVF Treatment Raise the Birth Defect in Babies

As per the experts, birth defects are mainly found in the babies who born with the assisted reproduction compare to those who born naturally. The birth defect for the babies born with IVF or any other fertility treatment was 10% as compared to 5.5% who born naturally. Eyes defect, heart defects and defects of reproductive organs were all common in the babies born with fertility treatment. Fertility treatments such as artificial insemination, intrauterine insemination, and use of fertility-enhancing drugs were not associated with an increased birth defect risk.

Infertility Treatment Not To Be Blame

IVF is the process of fertilizing the egg and sperm in the laboratory and then transferring the embryo in the women uterus. As per the experts it is not clear that the babies born from the assisted reproduction are the cause of increased risk for birth defects, hence it is still not clear if the procedures are to blame.
Still one expert says that the overall risk for birth defects due to assisted reproduction may be higher than the couple having the baby through unassisted reproduction.

One most important point, when doctors collect their data to account for host medical conditions and circumstances that are known to raise the risk of birth defects, like the mother’s age, previous history of smoking or drinking alcohol increased the risk of birth defects, hence, the procedure is not to blame for the same.

Birth Defects may lower by Freezing Embryos

Babies born with the embryos that have been frozen after ICSI have a risk of birth defects same as that the babies born to fertile couples. Whereas babies born with fresh embryos had a risk of birth defects that was about 70% higher than those born to fertile couples. People who use the clomiphene medicine that stimulates the ovulation, without consulting the doctor had a triple risk of having the baby with the birth defect. Both artificial insemination and the use of treatments to induce ovulation after consulting a doctor were not associated with an increased risk of birth defects.

Other treatments which have the higher birth defects include gamete intrafallopian transfer, which involves mixing an egg and sperm in a test tube and then immediately placing them into a fallopian tube. Gamete intrafallopian transfer was tied to a 73% increased risk of birth defects, but experts say it is less of a concern because it’s rarely used anymore.

While some patients think that the freezing the embryos may cause damage, however, the study says that frozen embryos reduced the risk of birth defects.

Multiple pregnancies increase the Defects of Birth Risk

The babies born too early, this is known as premature birth. Most of the twins and nearly about 90%of all triplets are born prematurely. Babies who born early have many health problems such as their lungs are no strong and they have difficulty while breathing. The blood vessels in their brains might bleed easily. Many other birth defects are also associated with the multiple pregnancies. The babies will probably be underweight and may get sick or even die. Other problems associated with multiple births may not become known for many years after delivery.
