The Uterus, which carries the fetus in females throughout the pregnancy, it has three layers – inner most, middle and outer layer. The innermost layer of uterus is called Endometrium. A thick and salutary Endometrium is crucial for normal menstrual cycle and successful pregnancy. A thick and healthy Endometrium, also known as Uterine Lining, goes a long way in ensuring effective implantation of fertilized eggs inside uterus. Later, during the pregnancy, it also nourishes the fetus.

Estrogen hormone is extremely vital in keeping Endometrium thick, salutary and blood-rich. Inadequate level of estrogen results in thin Endometrium. If a Uterine Lining or Endometrium is minimum 8 mm thick, it is considered satisfactory. Anything less than 7 mm is called Thin Endometrium.

Causes of Thin Endometrium
Low Estrogen
Inadequate blood flow
Fibroids
Amenorrhea/Abnormal periods
Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)
D&C or any pelvic surgeries
Intrauterine Adhesions
Excessive use of Clomiphene (Clomid)
Poor quality of endometrial tissue
Long term use of Birth control pills

Symptoms of Thin Endometrium
Issues pertaining to infertility
Abnormal or irregular Menstrual Cycle
Irregular or Painful Menses
Inadequate Menstrual bleeding

Pregnancy in Thin Endometrium
If women are grappling with issues related to pregnancy, like unable to get pregnant or difficulty in holding pregnancy, they must get their estrogen level and thickness of Endometrium checked. Uterine Lining must be at least 8 mm thick for successful implantation of fetus. If it (Uterine Lining) is thin, implantation does not take place that culminates into failure of pregnancy. Hence one needs to get treatment for Thin Endometrium to become pregnant.

Treatments available for Thin Endometrial Lining
Natural Treatment: There are various herbs and natural supplements that come in handy in maintaining estrogen level which in turn benefits Endometrium. Asparagus Racemosus, Dong Quai, Red Clover, Royal Jelly etc. are some of the herbs which are conducive for regulating estrogen level.

Acupuncture and Moxibustion: Acupuncture is a mechanism that is deployed to alleviate stress levels and negative energies that are accumulated in human’s body. Persistent stress can cause shrinking of Endometrium and hence it is essential to alleviate stress levels. Moxibustion is burning Mugwort herb. It is then put on the needles of Acupuncture and is instrumental in shoring up damaged tissues and removal of scars.

Hysteroscpy : Hysteroscopy helps to look inside the uterine cavity and allow a surgeon to evaluate the endometrial conditions. Intrauterine adhesions can also be removed if present and causing thin Endometrium.
